MOT in Oldham - Auto Lass
Auto Lass carries out MOT testing at our Woodend MOT Centre workshop in Oldham.
We are one of very few MOT testing centres in and around Oldham that has the appropriate qualifications and the facilities to offer MOT testing for every class of vehicle – classes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, & 7 – so whatever vehicle you drive, whether it’s a family saloon, a motorcycle, a minibus or an LCV, when it comes to the time to renew your MOT, get in touch with the team at Auto Lass and we’ll be happy to help.
As well as performing the MOT test, we provide MOT preparation work to ensure that your vehicle is up to the standard required to pass the test and can, of course, carry out any repairs that are required if your vehicle fails.
The MOT test is a thorough test of the important parts of your car to ensure that they meet both the DVSA’s safety and environmental requirements.
The test includes multiple checks on your car, spanning from the brakes and fuel system to the lights, mirrors, seatbelts, windscreen wipers and exhaust system. The clutch, gearbox and engine are not included in the test.
Most vehicles that fail the MOT test fail for small reasons such as faulty bulbs or worn tyres so it’s always worth carrying out a few pre-MOT checks before the test, such as checking tyre tread, oil levels, the condition of wipers, that there are no chips or cracks on the windscreen, and that all lights and indicators are working correctly. If you’re not confident doing those checks, give the team at Auto Lass a call on 0161 622 0089 a call and we’ll be happy to help you out.
If your car fails its MOT, you’ll need to have any repairs carried out and then have the vehicle retested.
We can do all the repairs here at Auto Lass and, in that case, the retest is free of charge. If your previous MOT certificate is still valid and there were no dangerous problems identified during the test, you can take your car away as long as the repairs are undertaken and the car is retested before the day the MOT expires. However, if we find any major issues which would make the vehicle unsafe to drive, you won’t be able to drive it until it’s repaired.
MOT tests are divided into different classes to ensure that every vehicle undergoes the appropriate checks for its type and its use.
Class 4 is the most common type of MOT test and is suitable for cars, smaller vans and pick-up trucks. Class 7 is for heavier (up to 3.5t) vehicles such as larger vans, motorhomes, and some commercial vehicles.
This list outlines the different MOT classes and the vehicles tested within each class.
The basic test is the same in that we check similar parts of the vehicle such as the brakes, tyres, lights, steering, suspension, emissions, and the general vehicle structure. In the class 7 test, the tyres and braking systems have additional checks to ensure that they can cope with the greater weight of these vehicles.
